OUR HISTORY
I had just turned five when my father had decided it was time for my older sister and I to begin riding waves on our own. So, we went and picked up his old longboard and began to repair it. It needed a new glass-on fin and there were so many dings, it looked like it was used in a shooting gallery.
After hitting the surf shop and picking up some supplies, "we" began to repair the board. After only a few long hours, it was ready to wax (parafin of course).
In the eighties, there was a severe shortage of longboards. I could only find them at garage sales; So badly beaten and waterlogged, I was lucky to get them to float. Using the skills my father had taught me, I would repair the boards and surf them until they died completely.
This naturally led to trying to shape boards myself. My first was a goofy looking thing right out of a cartoon; Hips and waves everywhere, but it floated and went straight. I shaped for myself and got some tips from some good guys.
Over the years, people began to buy my boards because I could give them exactly what they wanted and needed. Then it happened, my hobby went awry and became a business.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Paradise Planks believes most people cannot get what they want or need off of a rack. Everyone is different and therefore, every board will be different. In addition, we believe it is our duty as a manufacturer to promote environmental resposibility and awareness.
With the creation of Biofoam (Homeblownus.com) we can finally begin to promote a more ecofriendly surfboard that still performs as a board should. It brings together performance and resposibility into one package.
